After just over a year, NHAZCA is nearing the completion of the first phase of the prestigious IRIDE project.
But what exactly is IRIDE?
IRIDE is one of Europe’s most significant space programs in the field of Earth Observation. Its implementation will take place in Italy, spearheaded by the Italian Government with funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the complementary National Plan (PNC). IRIDE is a satellite system set to be fully operational by June 2026, coordinated by the European Space Agency (ESA) in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency (ASI), and it will contribute to a broad range of geospatial services.
During this initial phase, our team focused on generating advanced differential interferometry (DInSAR PS) satellite SAR data using images captured by the Cosmo-SkyMed constellation. Within the consortium engaged in this ESA project, we were entrusted with 11 specific areas, including the volcanic region of the Colli Albani and key locations housing Italy’s national cultural heritage.
Through the development of specific codes, this first phase has allowed us to assess the condition of these significant monuments in relation to ground deformations and regional hazards—a considerable task indeed!
This has been a highly challenging project for us, both in terms of manpower and scientific expertise.
The second phase will soon begin, where we will integrate all geospatial products and data developed thus far into a single platform or marketplace.
Stay tuned !
