Problem

The ISABHEL project was developed as part of an ESA call aimed at funding projects that use 5G networks alongside space assets for infrastructure monitoring. ISABHEL aims to offer a semi-automated decision support service for asset management and predictive maintenance of bridges, using an integrated system of advanced technologies such as satellite SAR data, contact sensors, Photomonitoring™, and finite element models (FEM).

Soluzione

NHAZCA participates in the project as prime contractor, alongside S2R, Nplus, and the Polytechnic University of Turin. Its primary responsibilities include overall coordination and activity management. NHAZCA specifically handles satellite data analysis, performing SAR interferometry to monitor deformations and movements of the infrastructure and surrounding areas. Additionally, it manages Photomonitoring™ technology with cameras and Change Detection techniques, an advanced solution for real-time visual detection of structural changes. The 5G network ensures fast data transmission from sensors and cameras, while calibrated FEM models support structural analyses.
By combining these data with other monitoring technologies, NHAZCA provides continuous and detailed assessments of the structural conditions of bridges, supporting effective and proactive maintenance management.

The integration of NHAZCA’s technologies in the ISABHEL project represents a scalable and replicable model for other sites in Italy and abroad. The success of this collaboration highlights the potential of 5G and IoT technologies to preserve and enhance cultural heritage, marking a significant step forward in safeguarding key infrastructure through technological innovation.

The ISABHEL project represents an innovative, integrated approach to structural bridge monitoring, combining advanced technologies to ensure safety and optimize maintenance. By overcoming the technical challenges of data integration and management, ISABHEL provides a comprehensive and accessible system that aligns with national infrastructure management needs. This proactive monitoring model is essential for protecting infrastructure and efficiently managing public resources.
